I took a short hike into the Buffalo River between Ponca and Kyles Landing recently. I had never been on this stretch before so was curious enough to get out on one of our near 100 degree days. Started around 7:30 with a temp around 85. This appeared to be a frequently hiked trail and was very clear and well maintained. The gradient is quite steep going in so I knew I was in for some work coming back out. The trail skirts Hemmed in Hollow Falls Valley and has a nice overlook in the direction of the falls. Upon arrival to the valley floor I found the Buffalo at a trickle, but at least it was flowing. I took a nice swim in front of Jim Bluff with the river all to myself. Hiking back out was rough at 95 degrees but still enjoyable. Total miles around 6.5.
